PLANS to install a 5G phone mast in Bebington have been submitted for approval by councillors.
If Cignal Infrastructure Limited UK's application is given the go-ahead, a 15-metre high mast, Hutchison 3G street pole and additional equipment cabinets would be installed adjacent to the bus shelter opposite Mayer Hall in The Village.
In a planning document submitted with the application, it was stated that the proposed mast would not "overly detract from the character of the existing streetscape".

Comments received during a pre-application consultation identified the need for Cignal Infrastructure Ltd to "carefully consider the risk of increased visual amenity to adjoining residential properties through the siting of telecommunications infrastructure within urban settings".
The statement submitted with the planning document continued: "In these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is recognised that high-speed mobile connectivity is the lifeblood of a community; facilitating educational benefits, providing access to vital services, improving communications with the associated commercial benefits for local businesses, enabling e-commerce and facilitating the increased need and demand for working from home, as well as enjoying access to social, media and gaming for leisure time activities.
"It is our opinion that the proposed design presents a better 'fit' within the local community and immediate streetscape, offering a reduced visual impact upon an area of adopted highway identified."
